How-To Use the Adapt-A-Grip System

Please read the following instructions on how to use the Adapt-A-Grip System. To see the system in use please download our short video on the right hand side of this page.

Attach utensils, brushes, or other hand-held item onto the Adaptors of the Adapt-A-Grip daily living assistive hand aid.

Objects such as the knife, fork and spoon to the left are attached to "Adaptors" with the included zip ties for permanent attachment. The included Velcro® straps can also be used for objects that you may want rotate such as toothbrushes.

Once the objects you want to use are attached to Adaptors they can be loaded onto the Accessory Holder, which is easily attached to most table and counter tops.

Slide the Holder into a quadriplegic utensil holder or univesal cuff (not included). The "Holder" is slid into a utensil holder (not included) such as the one to the left.
Position the holder to pick-up a utensil with the Adapt-A-Grip daily living assistive hand aid. Once the Adaptors are in place and the Holder is in the hand, the system is ready to be used.
Lock in the Holder and Adaptor to picking up a utensil with the Adapt-A-Grip daily living assistive hand aid. To pick up an object just simply "lock-in" the Holder to the Adaptor with the object you want to pick up. The Accessory Holder can be rotated for easy access to each object.

Once the Holder and Adaptor are locked into place you can lift the object straight out of the Accessory Holder. The Adaptor and Holder will stay together even when you turn your hand upside-down. This is achieved by two small but powerful magnets.

Self-feeding using a utensil with the Adapt-A-Grip daily living assistive hand aid. Now you can use the object as if you were holding it.
Release an utensil to pick-up another one with the Adapt-A-Grip daily living assistive hand aid. To place the object back into the Accessory Holder simply position the Adaptor over the slot in the Accessory Holder and pull down. This will break the hold of the magnets and release the object from your "grasp".

That is all there is to it. You can now rotate the Accessory Holder and pick up a different item.
